Getting started
Requirements
Deltabrief needs iOS 26 or later and runs on iPhone. It is a paid app with no in-app purchases and no subscription — every feature is included in the purchase.
Nothing appears on first launch
The first launch downloads the archive, which needs a working connection. If the list stays empty, check that your iPhone is online and pull down to refresh. On a slow connection the first fill can take a minute; later launches only fetch what changed.
I bought it before and it's gone
Paid apps are tied to your Apple Account, not to the device. Open the App Store, tap your photo, then Purchased, and download Deltabrief again — there is nothing to restore inside the app and you will not be charged twice.
Reading
Changing the text size
Settings has a reading text size that shifts the reader up or down from your system size, so you can read briefs larger without resizing the whole of iOS. It follows your accessibility settings rather than overriding them.
Saving a brief
Bookmark from the reader or from any list. Saved briefs appear under Saved, and they are always kept offline regardless of your other settings.
Searching
Search covers the whole archive — thousands of past issues — in English and Chinese. Briefs are also indexed in Spotlight, so you can search from the Home Screen without opening the app. If Spotlight results look stale, open the app once and let it refresh.
Listening
Playing a brief aloud
Open a brief and tap play. A mini player follows you around the app, and playback continues with the screen off, from the Lock Screen, and over CarPlay-connected audio or headphones.
Choosing a voice
Settings lets you pick a voice separately for English and Chinese, plus a speaking rate. Leaving a voice unset uses the best one installed, which improves automatically when you add a better one.
Getting better voices
The stock voices are serviceable; the downloadable ones are much better. In iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, then download an Enhanced or Premium voice for English or Chinese. Deltabrief picks it up straight away.
Playback stops when I leave the app
It shouldn't — Deltabrief keeps audio going in the background. If it stops, check that Low Power Mode isn't on and that Background App Refresh is allowed for Deltabrief in Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
Staying current
How refreshing works
Choose a refresh interval in Settings, or set it to manual only. On any interval, the app checks for changes when you open it and periodically in the background; if nothing upstream has changed, nothing is downloaded. Pull down on any list to refresh immediately.
Notifications aren't arriving
Check three things in order: the toggle in Deltabrief's Settings is on; Deltabrief is allowed to notify you in iOS Settings → Notifications; and a Focus mode isn't filtering it. Note that notifications are suppressed while the app is open — the status line on Latest already tells you.
If you declined the permission when first asked, it can only be re-granted from iOS Settings; the in-app toggle cannot undo a denial.
Reading offline
With offline reading on (the default), the newest issues and everything you've saved are downloaded before you open them, so they still read on a plane or underground. Turn it off in Settings if you'd rather not spend the data.
Widget and Siri
Adding the widget
Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit → Add Widget, search for Deltabrief and choose a size. It also works as a Lock Screen widget. Open the app and let it refresh once before adding the widget, so it has issues to show.
The widget looks out of date
iOS decides when widgets are allowed to update, and it budgets those updates to save battery — a lag of an hour or two is normal. Opening the app updates it immediately.
Siri
Say “Play today's briefs” or “Open the latest brief”. Both shortcuts also appear in the Shortcuts app under Deltabrief, where you can rename the phrase or build them into an automation.
Privacy and data
Deltabrief collects nothing — no account, no analytics, no tracking. Everything you read, save and set stays on your iPhone. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
To remove all of it, delete the app. There is no server-side copy to ask us about.
